Jeanne St James

I’d like to welcome Jeanne St. James to my blog this week.

RW:        Tell us about yourself, your family, where you live.

JSJ:       I live in south central Pennsylvania. I’m not just an author. I work full-time in a government organization. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a law enforcement background. I love to travel, and I’m hoping to retire from my job in about ten years and move to an island where I can snorkel every day. I’m a “water baby.” I can be out in the water snorkeling for hours. I have two French bulldogs and a boyfriend of over five years who is a police officer (a Captain).

RW:        How many hours a day do you spend writing?

JSJ:       It varies. I try to average a thousand words per day. Somedays I spend more time writing, others I don’t spend any time at all. Or I’m editing. Or promoting. Being an author is much more than just writing.

RW:        What is the best thing about being a writer?

JSJ:       Seeing your characters come to life. I’ve always imagined conversations in my head. I’ve always had someone (imaginary) telling me their story. And you get to live through your characters. Take adventures you may have never taken or never will get to take. You can write characters you yourself would fall in love with, or want to hang out with. You are only limited by your imagination.

RW:        Who are your favorite characters among the books you’ve written?

JSJ:       I would have to say my favorite character is Amanda. She’s the heroine in Brothers in Blue: Max. She starts out the story as a “spoiled rich girl” and is stuck raising her special needs adult brother. Through the story she grows into a responsible adult and falls in love. Her journey is one of my favorites.

RW:        How does reader feedback matter to you?

JSJ:       I don’t just write for myself. I write to entertain people. I know my books aren’t for everyone. But when someone tells me that they LOVED my book, it makes me feel good. I told them a story that they enjoyed. And that makes me happy!

RW:        What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

JSJ:       Yoga. Travel. Watch a movie. Or read a book.

RW:        Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?

JSJ:       It depends, the more books I write, the faster I write them. I now just sit down and write and go back and polish later. I need to get the story out and then make it shine. I would say it takes me about three weeks to write a novella and seven or eight weeks to write a novel.

RW:        What can we expect from you in the future?

JSJ:       I am finishing up my Brothers in Blue series this year. I am going to continue my Dare Ménage series. I have a couple stand-alone books which will be out (and one more to write for 2017). And I have an idea for a MC series. So, the answer is: you can expect a lot (and variety, too).

RW:        If you came with a warning label, what would it say?

JSJ:       Warning: Opinionated, highly motivated, and extremely determined!

RW:        How many books have you written, how many have been published?

JSJ:       Let’s see. I have six currently published. I have one which will be re-released later this year. So, that’s seven published total. I am currently writing two. I have three more currently being edited. Plus I have a couple books I wrote but will never see the light of day (for good reason).

RW:        Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

JSJ:       I’m a pantser, so my characters control me. I start out with a premise, but as I write, the characters and their actions direct the story. Sometimes I’m surprised where they lead me.

RW:        Party life or quiet dinner for two?

JSJ:       Quiet dinner for two. I don’t enjoy crowds, or craziness anymore. I’m happy to spend quiet time with my boyfriend.

RW:        Those are all the questions I have for you today. Thanks so much for visiting my blog.

DARING PROPOSAL
(The Dare Ménage Series, Book Two)

The Plot:

Never in her life has she been so bold to propose something so daring…

Since losing her husband years ago in a tragic accident, Eve Sanders hasn’t dated. Her husband’s death proved life is short, so why waste time denying her unfulfilled desires. Eve desires two men, but not just any two. Both happen to be former Super Bowl champions and best friends.

When both men participate in a Celebrity Date Night charity event, Eve’s determined to not only be the winning bidder for the retired NFL quarterback Lawrence “Long Arm” Landis, but also Cole Dixon, his former Boston Bulldogs teammate. However, Ren not only has a problem with another man dating the same woman, but he definitely isn’t planning on sharing her in the same bed. Even if it’s with his best friend.

Openly bi-sexual, Cole is sexually attracted to Ren and has secretly wanted him for years. He’s never acted upon it, assuming Ren wouldn’t want to be with another man. Eve’s daring proposal gives Cole hope his dream with Ren will come true.

Being with two men is one of Eve’s fantasies, but never in her life has she been so bold. Not only is she nervous about proposing something so daring to the two men, but will both be willing?

Jeanne’s Bio:

Jeanne St. James is an erotic romance author who loves an Alpha male (or two). She was only thirteen when she started writing, since it gave her an escape from teenage angst! Her first paid published piece was an erotic story in Playgirl magazine. Her first erotic romance novel, Banged Up, was published in 2009. She is happily owned by farting French bulldogs. She writes M/F, M/M, and M/M/F ménages.

She has a few new releases coming up in 2017. So keep an eye on her website at www.jeannestjames.com or sign up for her newsletter: http://www.jeannestjames.com/newslettersignup

Excerpt:

The man next to her was solid, his arm wrapped around her bare shoulders. She leaned into him, practically tucked under his arm. She pressed her face into his neck and inhaled him, his scent. He smelled so good. She detected a fresh smell of what she thought might be honey…and oatmeal?

“Why do you smell like breakfast?” she murmured against his skin. His deep chuckle sent a shiver up her spine, hardening her nipples.

“It’s my soap. It’s locally made with honey, oatmeal, and goat’s milk. Are you cold?”

“No. Is it also made up with the tears of angels? Because you smell like heaven to me.”

Ren snorted. “Oh, you got jokes.” He squeezed her and lowered his face, kissing her hard, taking complete possession of her mouth and tongue.

Eve’s wrapped a hand around the back of his head, and moaned into his mouth. Their tongues danced together, their breaths mingled. She closed her eyes to sink deeper into the kiss.

Her other hand found his waist, trying to get even closer, if it was possible. His hands slid over her bare back, over her shoulders and down both arms until he got to her wrists. He pulled himself free and pulled back away from her slightly.

“Baby, unless you want me to take you right here, right on this deck, we need to hold off a bit. I promised you a beautiful sunset. Once the sun is down, all bets are off.”

Eve didn’t know if she could wait that long. Her breathing was strained and she was already wet. “How soon is the sun going down?”

Ren let out a ragged breath. “Damn, you’re not making this easy for me. We need to stand up.” He grabbed her hand to help her up. “I’m hard as fuck.” He adjusted himself in his tailored black slacks. He guided her to the deck rail. She leaned her belly against it, and he stood behind her, his hips tight against her ass. “Can you feel me?”

Eve’s breath caught; she could only nod.

Ren swept her hair to one side and nuzzled her neck. He worked his way down, kissing and licking her heated skin, then nipping her where her neck met her shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her waist, the weight of her breasts against his forearms. He leaned his cheek against hers.

“There. See that? Mother Earth is going to bed for the night. She’s giving us all those amazing colors as a goodnight.”

“It’s beautiful.”

“It never gets old.”

They watched as the sun lowered until it disappeared behind the horizon, the vibrant colors slowly turning to hues of dark blue, gray, and black.

Her heart skipped a beat when he grabbed her hand and escorted her back through the house. He led her to the impressive staircase in the foyer.

“That’s a lot of stairs,” she teased.

“Do you want me to carry you?”

“I thought you’d never ask!”

Cowboy Dreamin’ by Starla Kaye

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Starla Kaye wears many hats professionally and as a writer. She is the community coordinator for a Midwestern accounting firm, a gerontologist who volunteers with an active group of senior adults, a mentor/teacher of writing, and a multi-published author.

BLURB
Kendra spends her days and nights running a business, sculpting, and leading a Tahitian dance group in Kauai. She can’t squeeze anything else into her life, but she dreams of cowboys. Sexy, hot cowboys in tight jeans, low-tipped Stetsons, and dusty boots. Men who know all about how to please a woman. She enjoys her fantasies, but can’t imagine ever settling down. But one night with one would be so nice. Surely that would get her dreams of a white knight cowboy sweeping her off her feet out of her system.

Because of an accident that Shane believes left him “less of a man,” he doesn’t see a wife and children in his future. Carson, his ranching partner—and sometimes lover—thinks Shane is wrong. Carson refuses to let Shane settle for a life of rodeo bunnies who only want a romp in bed with a bull rider. Shane deserves more than that. He manages to sign Shane up with a matchmaking service to, hopefully, meet another kind of woman, maybe someone who will appreciate Shane for the man he is. Except Madame Evangeline expects both of the cowboys to go on this special one night date. It doesn’t take long for either cowboy to realize that one night with the purple-haired, hip-shaking beauty in Kauai might not be enough.

EXCERPT:
“I can’t do this!” Kendra moaned and glared at Alexis in the dressing room mirror. She had one boob in a coconut cup and one boob that refused to go in the other bra cup. “I can’t!”

Alexis walked over and calmly pushed Kendra’s hands out of the way. She lifted the problem coconut shell cup and gently guided the uncooperative breast into place. “Situation resolved.”

Tears threatened and Kendra’s stomach churned. “That was only part of what’s wrong.”

She’d been stressed ever since learning about this arranged meeting between her and the two cowboys from Kansas. She’d been dreaming about a fantasy, sexy cowboy for so long. But two at the same time? What if neither of them met her visualization? Would she be soured on all cowboys? Would her fantasies be ruined forever? She didn’t have time in her harried life for more than the occasional fantasy. She needed it.

She exhaled deeply, wincing at the slight movement of the rough shells over her tender breasts. She still hadn’t gotten around to replacing the felt lining and she would pay for that negligence today. “My fantasies are all I have. If this goes wrong…. If they are—”

“This could be far better than those dreams of yours,” Alexis chastised with a frown. “It’s two cowboys.”

Kendra paced away and fluffed out her skirt. “Could be being keywords.”

A tear trickled down her cheek and she dashed it ruthlessly away. Then her shoulders slumped and she mumbled miserably, “I should never have agreed to any of this.” She glowered at Alexis. “You pushed me into it, all of it. Agreeing to spend some kind of night with two cowboys is bad enough. But you accepted this dance show without discussing it with me. And they are supposed to meet me here.”

She paced across the small room again, fluffing the sides of her grass skirt again. “First impressions are a big deal, you know. And here I’ll be shimmying my ass around wearing a pink skirt made of fake grass and bouncing my boobs in a really dumb coconut shell bra.”

To her disgust, Alexis laughed. “They’ll think themselves the luckiest cowboys in the world.”

VIP Room Service (Other Related Duties #1) by Zenobia Renquist

** Interview **

RW:    How many hours a day do you spend writing?

ZR:     As many as I can, which is easy or hard depending on the day of the week. My routine is to get up, do morning stuff (wash my face, brush my teeth, get some food), and then get myself situated with a snack and some water so I can write until my hubby comes home from work. That’s my routine on a day when I have nothing else going on. Fridays and weekends tend to be lost causes just because the hubby gets home early or has the day off on Friday and he wants to spend time with me.

RW:    What is the best thing about being a writer?

ZR:     The best part about being a writer is seeing my imagination come to life on the page. I get so into a story while I’m writing it, that later down the line when I read it again I can hardly believe the words came from me. I’m my first fan, so writing is a way to feed my need to read more.

RW:    Why did you decide to write?

ZR:     Waaaaaay back before I knew what e-books were, when e-books were still new for the most part, I had a hard time finding black heroines in the Fantasy/Paranormal Romance genre or anywhere else in Romance-land for that matter. I wanted to read about black heroines being whisked away to far off lands by space pirates or being haunted by a ghost lover and so on. Taking it one step further, I wanted to see black heroines in interracial relationships because that is the life I am living. Not finding any, I decided I would write some.

RW:    How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

ZR:     I would say about one experience or personality trait per book. Everyone always says write what you know, so I do. I have dreadlocks so a few of my heroines do as well. Any wackiness with my health (and there’s been a lot in the last few years) ends up in a book so my heroine can suffer with it as well. If something even remotely interesting happens in my life, I find a way to include it in my stories.

RW:    If money were not an object, where would you most like to live?

ZR:     Japan. Specifically Osaka, Japan. I visited there as a study abroad student in college and would love to go back. I love Japanese culture (I’m an anime/manga geek) and the food is amazing.

RW:    What is your secret guilty pleasure?

ZR:     The erotic side of Tumblr—from puppies to porn in five seconds. I heard that joke and laughed until I visited the site. They aren’t kidding. Do a single search with the adult filter off and you’ll go from cute little puppies to boobs in your face in no time flat.

RW:    How do you come up with story ideas?

ZR:     The majority of the time my ideas start with the main characters arguing. Some sound while I’m walking or a phrase in a TV show will spark off an argument in my head between two people. But I come in at the middle of the argument and have to figure out what it’s about, how it got started, and how to resolve it. From there the story grows.

RW:    After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?

ZR:     Yes and yes. I buy it just to see how it looks in Kindle, which is what I have. I read it but only after a few months. I have a rule of not reading my own stuff while it’s still new or else I’ll get obsessed with what I could have done differently. I would rather focus on the next book that needs finishing. But half a year later or so, I’ll be focused enough on a new story that I can read the published one and just be content with how it turned out. Well sort of. No artist is ever happy with the final product because there is always something that could have been improved.

She drew in a long gasping breath and then choked on it as someone knocked at the door.
“Room service.”
She widened her eyes, and her pleasure dropped to nil.
“Ah. Right on time.” Mr. Malena dialed off the vibrator, removed it, and set it aside. He called, “One moment.”
“What?” Lexie asked in a frantic whisper. She clutched at the comforter, debating if she should hide in the bathroom or under the bed. Had the server heard her? Had he recognized her voice?
She looked at her uniform draped over the back of the chair. He would know a housekeeper was with Mr. Malena. A housekeeper who was undressed with a wide variety of toys out in the open. No deductive reasoning was needed to figure out what was happening or who the housekeeper was.
Mr. Malena patted her belly. “Shhhh.” He held his finger to his lips. “Just relax.”
“I can’t relax,” Lexie whispered back. “He’ll see me.”
“No, he won’t.” He grinned. “Not your face, at any rate.” He urged her to lie back before draping a towel over her head. “There.”
“Wha—”
“Shhhh. You don’t want him to recognize your voice, if you know him. So long as you stay still, he won’t see your face.”
“What about the rest of me? What about my uniform? And the cart outside?” Lexie could see her job ending. She should have known this was too good to be true.
“I’ll take care of it. Now hush.”
Clothing rustled. Lexie peeked under the towel in time to see Mr. Malena fold her uniform into one of the dresser drawers and close it. He slipped on a robe and then glanced back at her. She yanked the towel back down. She wanted to roll herself in the comforter. Wanted to and didn’t at the same time.
She only had to keep her face covered, and the server wouldn’t know who she was. The idea of letting a virtual stranger see her naked titillated her. Her clit throbbed and ached to be touched. She clutched at the towel and waited.
Mr. Malena opened the door. “Thank you, my good man. I am famished. This way.”
Lexie frowned. When had he ordered room service? Had he done it before she arrived and known it would get here while they were playing? He did seem less flustered by this turn of events than she was, as if he’d planned it.
The server asked, “Where do you want— Whoa!”
A long pause followed that exclamation. The server had seen her.
