Dessy, Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire by Kayelle Allen @kayelleallen #SciFi #SpaceOpera #MFRWauthor

RW:    Where do you live?

D:       For now, on Sempervia, a planet far across the galaxy from home.

RW:    During what time-period does your story take place?

A.                    Your Earth year 4536 AD. For us, it's Sempervian year 1.

RW:    How are you coping with the conflict in your life?

D:       Just because I've been exiled with only the clothing on my back and am one of only a dozen people out of cryostasis (among half a million), doesn't mean I have conflict. My egotistical, narcissist brother doesn't bother me at all. Nor does my overbearing, insufferable father, or my cowardly, whatever-you-say-dear mother. No. I'm quite happy. (Eye roll.)

RW:    What is your secret guilty pleasure?

D:       Clean clothing and soap. How I miss hot water!

RW:    If you were stranded on a tropical island, who would it be with? You can choose any living, deceased or mythical figure.

D:      My dear, I'm already stranded on a place far worse than that. I'm glad it's with Armand and Philippe, two eight-feet-tall twin brothers who do literally everything together. (Smiles.) Including me.

RW:    Cherries or Bananas? Leather or lace? Black or red? Mud Bath or Oily Massage?

D:      Cherries. Leather. Black. Oily massage. Yes. Oh, yes...

RW:    If you came with a warning label, what would it say?

D:       Does not suffer fools.

RW:    Satin, Egyptian cotton, jersey, flannel… What are your favorite sheets?

D:       Satin. After all, someone else should be washing them and making the bed. If I had to do it, cotton.

RW:    Hunky heroes or average Joe?

D:       The hunkier the better.

RW:    Party life or quiet dinner for two?

D:       Party. Every night. All night.

RW:   Those are all the questions I have for you. Thank you for speaking to me.

D:     You're welcome. It's high time someone actually listened to me. Usually, everyone wants to talk to my brother. This was nice. It's good to be appreciated. (Glares at brother.) For a change.

KAYELLE ALLEN

Bio

Kayelle Allen did a tour in the US Navy, where she climbed around airplanes (on the ground, thankfully) fixing black boxes that helped pilots find their way home.

She wrote her first science fiction novel at eighteen and to this day, it's hidden under the bed, where she vows it will remain. Gems from it, however, launched several series in her galaxy-wide universe of stories.

From childhood, Kayelle was the victim of an overactive imagination and inherited the Irish gift of gab from her mother. From her father, she got a healthy respect for mechanical things.

No wonder she writes Science Fiction and Fantasy peopled with misbehaving robots, mythic heroes, role playing immortal gamers, and warriors who purr. She's been married so long she's tenured.

Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire

The Plot

When the immortal Pietas is marooned on a barren world with no food and few survival tools, he knows it could be worse. He could be alone. But that's the problem. He's not.

Half a million of his people sleep in cryostasis, trapped inside their pods and it's up to Pietas to free them. He can't release one at a time. It's all or nothing. He's facing over five hundred thousand hungry, thirsty, homeless immortals who will call on him for rescue and he has no way to answer.

It's not all bad. The beautiful telepathic warrior he's loved for lifetimes is at his side. He's bonded with a sentient panther. He hates humans but the one dumped on this planet with him has become a trusted friend.

Before Pietas can build shelter, figure out how to grow food, or set up a government, he must take back command from a ruthless enemy he's fought for centuries. His brutal, merciless father.

Immortals may heal, but a wound of the heart lasts forever...

An Excerpt:

In this scene, told from the point of view of Pietas (Dessy's twin brother) we can see how poorly the twins get along. Pietas has completed a ritual in which he paints on a mask. Because he had nothing to use, he's pretended to do so, and Dessy, jealous of not being the one to perform the ritual with him, takes action.

Dessy slid one fingertip across an area below one of his eyes. "There." She dusted off her hands. "That's better."

"What did you do?"

"Since you didn't have a real partner for your ritual, I fixed your mask." She shot him a humorless, sneering smile. "You missed a spot."

Ire flooded Pietas. He gripped Dessy's wrist and yanked her to him.

The shock on her face gave way to indignation. "Let go!" She jerked her arm but he held her fast. She shoved him.

He didn't budge, refusing to let her win.

She bombarded him with her empathic senses. The melee of anger and rage stung worse than an ice storm, but pain had never stopped him. "I'm warning you, Pietas. Let go of me!"

"Or what?" He shot back his own and added a trickle of Wilt, a demand for surrender. "You'll tell Daddy?"

Her inborn Ultra gift of Compulsion pushed at his mind, willing Pietas to release her. His sister had mastered the ability as a toddler. He'd been four before he grasped the concept. Seven before he'd mastered it.

But he'd been born immune.
She blasted him with a wall of outrage. Again, it hurt. A human would crumple before such an attack. His sister had once knocked half a squad unconscious without so much as one weapon.

Pietas continued to grip her wrist. It was an effort. She used every trick soldiers knew, but failed to free herself. Though she could resist Beguile by others, she never knew when he used it.

To Dessy and the others, he stood there, passive, gripping her wrist with one hand. In reality, he gripped her with both and barely held her.

She could have gained her freedom without difficulty, but she believed otherwise. Hardly fair of him, but Dessy never fought fair unless forced. Winning is everything. That was her motto. His was Honor. Always.
