RIW AUTHOR BLOG FEATURED AUTHOR
Author Biography
Barbara White Daille lives with her husband in the sunny
U.S. Southwest. Though they love the warm winters and the lizards in their
front yard, they haven’t gotten used to the scorpions
in the bathroom.
Barbara loves looking
back at the short stories and two books she wrote in grade school and realizing
that—except for the scorpions—she’s doing exactly what she planned. She has now
hit double digits with published novels and still has a file drawer full of
stories to be written.
Barbara’s thrilled to
share news of the debut of a brand-new series, The Hitching Post Hotel, about a
matchmaking grandpa determined to see his three granddaughters wed. The series
has just kicked off with The Cowboy’s Little
Surprise and will be followed by A Rancher of Her Own
in July and The Lawman’s Christmas Proposal in
December.
Author Interview
RIW:
Tell us about your latest book. What motivated the story? Where did the idea
come from?
BWD:
The Cowboy’s Little Surprise is book one in a series in which a matchmaking
grandpa wants to find mates for his three granddaughters. Book one tells the
story of the youngest granddaughter, a single mom whose life is turned
upside-down when her former high-school crush—who dissed her in front of
everyone in the school cafeteria—returns to town and discovers the secret she
has kept from him.
RIW:
Bubble baths or steamy showers? Ocean or mountains? Puppies or kittens? Chocolate
or caramel?
BWD:
Bubble baths—where I get my best ideas. Ocean—the sound of the surf is
relaxing. Puppies—they’re so adorable and it’s fun to watch them grow. And
chocolate—just because.
RIW:
What can we expect from you in the future?
BWD:
Books two and three in The Hitching Post Hotel series will be out later this
year. Book two pairs a successful New York-based photographer who travels the
world with a rancher who doesn’t care if he never leaves his hometown. He’s sure
ready for a fling, though…until she tries to get between him and his kids.
Book
three involves our matchmaking grandpa’s biggest challenge—a recently widowed
mom who reunites with an L.A. cop recovering from the trauma of an undercover
op gone bad. Though he’s the boy she left behind, the attraction between them
is as strong as ever—and Grandpa Jed intends to make the most of it.
RIW:
Do you have a favorite comment or question from a reader?
BWD:
In Rancher at Risk I wanted to write about a
woman like any other woman, who just happens to be deaf. After the book came
out, I was thrilled to receive a letter from a reader who said she has many
deaf family members and that I “got it right.” Lianne makes her first
appearance in an earlier Flagman’s Folly book, A Rancher’s
Pride (mentioned here in another response), along with her
four-year-old niece, Becky, who also is deaf.
RIW:
After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever read it?
BWD:
Yes, I do—to make sure I’ve grown as a writer, to find ways I can improve, and to
revisit the settings and characters I love.
RIW:
Among your own books, do you have a favorite book? Favorite hero or heroine?
BWD:
As I imagine many moms say about their kids, “They’re all special in their own
ways.” But I will admit Sam from A Rancher’s Pride
required extra attention. He comes home one day to discover he’s the daddy of a
little girl he’d never known anything about. Then he discovers he can’t
communicate with her because she’s deaf. He travels a long, tough road in his
story.

The Plot:
A Reason to Stay
Ranch manager Pete
Brannigan has no interest in playing tour guide to a city slicker like Jane Garland.
But spending a few days with the headstrong photographer is a small price to
pay for everything her grandfather has given the single dad. Though Pete's
drawn to Jane's sharp wit and striking beauty, he won't hurt his young children
by falling for another woman who puts her career before family.
Jane's seen the world
through her camera…and used it to shield her emotions. With Pete, she can
finally let her guard down. If only he could do the same. Despite their
powerful bond, Pete still can't trust Jane with his kids or his heart. But if
he keeps pushing her away, he may ruin any chance their relationship has to
develop.
Review: **** RT Book Reviews Wrote: “This slow-burning romance with an
antagonistic edge addresses love, loss and learning to forgive.”

Excerpt:
Since
the divorce, he hadn’t dated or even brought anyone new around his kids—and in
fact, he’d pretty much kept himself to himself. He had no plans to jump into
another relationship. But, for his kids’ sake, he couldn’t rule out the idea of
marrying again someday. He just needed to find the right woman to make his
family complete.
No
way was a smart-mouthed city slicker like Jane Garland the right woman to be a
mom to his kids.
And no way was she
the woman for him…no matter how much he wanted her.
